Preview: Hull City vs. Millwall - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Championship clash between Hull City and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Millwall will be bidding to strengthen their Championship playoff hopes when they make the trip to Hull City on Monday afternoon.

The visitors are currently fifth in the table, two points clear of seventh-placed Norwich City, while Hull occupy 17th, eight points clear of the relegation zone heading into the next set of fixtures.

Hull will enter Monday's match off the back of an eight-goal thriller with Sunderland on Friday, with the Tigers securing a share of the spoils in the 98th minute courtesy of Ozan Tufan's second goal of the match.

Liam Rosenior's side are currently 17th in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone, which is a healthy advantage at this stage of the campaign.

Hull have not actually been victorious in the Championship since the start of March, but they have only lost once during that period, sharing the points in four of their last five matches in the second tier of English football.

The Tigers finished 19th in the Championship last season upon their return to this level, and they are only actually three points behind 13th-placed Bristol City, so the team could push higher up the division in the closing stages of the campaign.

Hull have picked up 26 points from their 20 home Championship matches this season, and they will be welcoming a Millwall outfit with the ninth-best away record in the division.

Millwall, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a goalless draw with Luton Town on Friday, while they also played out a 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion at the start of the month.

The Lions have picked up 62 points from their 40 league matches this season, which has left them in fifth position in the table, two points ahead of seventh-placed Norwich.

Gary Rowett's side have their destiny in their own hands when it comes to a playoff spot, and it would be a huge achievement to claim a top-six spot in the second tier.

Millwall, who have never played in the Premier League, played out a goalless draw with Hull when the two teams locked horns for the reverse match earlier this season.

Rowett's team have back-to-back home games against Preston North End and Birmingham City after this fixture, so a positive result on Monday would leave them in a strong position heading into the final straight.

Team News

Hull still have a relatively lengthy injury list, with Aaron Connolly, Oscar Estupinan, Cyrus Christie, Benjamin Tetteh, Nathan Baxter and Vaughn Covil on the sidelines.

The Tigers have no fresh concerns from their draw with Sunderland, though, so head coach Rosenior is expected to have the same group of players to choose from.

There could be a change in midfield, with Greg Docherty expected to feature, while Tufan, fresh from his brace at the Stadium of Light, will again feature in an advanced area.

As for Millwall, Charlie Cresswell, Mason Bennett, Callum Styles and Tyler Burey remain on the sidelines through injury.

Head coach Rowett will need to assess the fitness of his squad following the goalless draw with Luton, but there do not appear to be any issues at this stage.

A 4-2-3-1 formation should again include Tom Bradshaw and Zian Flemming, with the duo scoring 27 Championship goals between them during the 2022-23 campaign.

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Darlow; Coyle, Jones, McLoughlin, Greaves; Sayyadmanesh, Seri, Slater, Docherty; Tufan, Traore

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Long; McNamara, Hutchinson, Cooper, Wallace; Leonard, Saville; Burke, Flemming, Voglsammer; Bradshaw

We say: Hull City 1-1 Millwall

The points were shared in a goalless draw when the two sides locked horns earlier this season, and we can see another stalemate in this match. Millwall need to win to boost their playoff hopes, but Hull have only lost once in the Championship since the end of February.
