Dale Carrick rescues draw for Hearts at St Mirren

St Mirren draw with Hearts in the final Scottish Premiership game for the relegated Jambos.

Dale Carrick's equaliser early in the second half was enough to ensure that Hearts leave the Scottish Premiership with a draw at St Mirren.

The Jambos had started the game well when Jamie Walker brought two saves out of Christopher Dilo in the Buddies goal, but their travelling support didn't seem to care too much as they vocally expressed their joy at Hibernian's own relegation fight.

However, it was St Mirren who took the lead midway through the first half when Conor Newton tucked home Kenny McLean's cross to give the Paisley club hope of a better league finish and greater prize money.

Josh Magennis almost doubled the Saints' lead when his header went narrowly wide just after the half-hour mark.

Hearts managed to get back on terms within minutes of the restart when Carrick smashed his shot high into the roof of the net.

Both sides failed to take opportunities late on to win the game and ultimately settled for a point that left the Jambos with 22 points and well adrift of the sides above them, while Saints finish in eighth place.
