Goals from Nelson Oliviera and Maxi Periera see Benfica progress to the Champions League last eight with a 4-3 win on aggregate over Zenit St. Petersburg

Benfica secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Zenit St. Petersburg at the Stadium of Light tonight.

Going into the game trailing 3-2 from the first leg in Russia, the Portuguese side levelled the tie in the dying stages of the first period.

Full-back Maxi Periera slotted home following Axel Witsel's back-heel pass to give Benfica the lead.

The hosts were all set to progress on the away goals rule but sealed the tie with a further goal in second-half stoppage time.

Substitute Nelson Oliviera latched onto Bruno Cesar's perfectly-weighted through ball to make the score 4-3 on aggregate and send Benfica into the last eight.
