A late penalty try following a red card for Errie Claassens gives Gloucester a 29-23 win over Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership.

Gloucester have taken a 29-23 win over Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership courtesy of a late penalty try.

There was little between the sides in the opening half-hour, with Gloucester just edging ahead through two Rob Cook penalties.

The visitors were reduced to 14 when Sam Betty was shown a yellow card, but the Warriors dug deep, managing to send Josh Matavesi over the try line to take the lead. A quick response from Henry Trinder returned the advantage to Gloucester just before half time.

Penalties from Cook and Ryan Mills allowed the hosts to open up a nine-point lead, before Alex Grove broke the whitewash for Worcester's second try of the game, setting up a closely-fought final 20 minutes.

A series of penalties from both sides saw the lead change hands on a number of occasions, with Worcester a point ahead as the 80 minutes expired.

However, Gloucester kept the ball in play, and were awarded a penalty try after Errie Claassens was sent off for a tip tackle.

The win moves Gloucester in the top four, while Worcester remain ninth in the table.
