Diogo Jota will be looking to break a goalscoring record set by Radamel Falcao when Wolverhampton Wanderers face Olympiacos in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota is looking to become the first player in major Uefa competition to score a hat-trick in three successive appearances.

Having endured a poor run of form in the final third, Jota netted his first treble of the campaign in the group-stage encounter with Besiktas at Molineux.

The Portuguese matched that effort last month, contributing another three goals as the Premier League outfit registered a 4-0 triumph over Espanyol at the last-32 stage.

Given the club's commanding advantage, Nuno Espirito Santo made the decision to rest the playmaker for the second leg in Spain, putting the 23-year-old in a position to break a long-standing record against Olympiacos on Thursday night.

During 2010-11, Radamel Falcao, then of Porto, netted three hat-tricks during the club's successful Europa League campaign, which ended with a 1-0 win over compatriots Braga in the final.

The Colombian's first treble came at Rapid Vienna in the group stages, before a second hat-trick came during a home contest with Spartak Moscow.

Falcao saved his best effort until last, scoring four times during the first leg of the semi-final against Villarreal.
