Preview: Wealdstone vs. Solihull Moors - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Wealdstone and Solihull Moors, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two mid-table teams in the National League will lock horns on Tuesday evening, with Wealdstone welcoming Solihull Moors to Grosvenor Vale.

Wealdstone are currently 14th in the table, boasting 57 points from their 44 games this season, while Solihull occupy 12th, one point ahead of their opponents heading into the contest.

Match preview

Wealdstone cannot be relegated this season and also have no chance of making the playoffs, so their last two games of the 2022-23 campaign are relatively pressure-free.

That said, the team can still finish as high as 10th and as low as 17th, so there is the possibility for a lot of movement in the closing stages of the season, with the Stones heading to Southend United for the final match of their season on April 29.

Stuart Maynard's side have not actually been victorious in the National League since March 11, which is a run that stretches back eight matches, and they have lost six times during that period.

The Royals have finished 19th and 16th in the National League since returning to this level, so it would be a big achievement for them to improve on that position this term.

Wealdstone have lost their last two league games against Solihull, including a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but the two sides played out a 0-0 draw when they last met at Grosvenor Vale.

Solihull have been present at National League level since gaining promotion from National League North in 2016, finishing 16th, 18th, second, ninth, 11th and third during that period.

Last season, the Moors lost to Grimsby Town in the final of the playoffs, but they have been unable to launch a promotion challenge during the 2022-23 campaign.

A record of 15 wins, 13 draws and 16 defeats from 44 matches has seen the team collect 58 points, which has left them in 12th position in the table, 11 points behind the playoffs.

Neal Ardley's side, who drew 0-0 with Eastleigh on Saturday, can still finish 10th, but they could also drop down the table with disappointing results in their last two games against Wealdstone and Woking.

Plans will already be underway for next season, with the West Midlands outfit bidding to launch a promotion challenge once again, but it will not be easy in a notoriously difficult league.

Team News

Wealdstone head coach Maynard will need to assess the fitness of his players following the 2-2 draw with Dorking Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

The goalscorers from the contest - Dominic Hutchinson and Charles Clayden - should both retain their spots in the starting side, and it would not be a surprise to see the same XI take to the field.

Micah Obiero has seven league goals to his name this season and will again feature in the final third alongside Tarryn Allarakhia, who has netted five times in the National League in 2022-23.

As for Solihull, Josh Kelly has been the team's main source of goals this season, finding the back of the net on 12 times in the National League, and the 24-year-old will continue in the final third of the field.

Like Maynard, the away side's head coach Ardley will need to have a close look at the fitness of his players following the draw at Eastleigh before deciding on an XI here.

One possible change is Jamey Osborne for Jack Stevens, while Kian Ryley will also be in the manager's thinking when it comes to potential alterations for this contest.

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Howes; Habergham, Barrett, Barker, Ferguson; Hutchinson, Lo-Everton, Charles, Clayton; Obiero, Allarakhia

Solihull Moors possible starting lineup:
Boucher; Jones, Clarke, Tiensia, Mills; Whelan, Owen, Beck, Donawa; Kelly, Osborne

We say: Wealdstone 2-2 Solihull Moors

Both sides have had similar seasons, and there is just one point between them heading into this match. Neither has an awful lot to play for, which could create an open match, and we are predicting an entertaining draw between the two sides on Tuesday night.
