Preview: Tranmere Rovers vs. Harrogate Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League Two clash between Tranmere Rovers and Harrogate Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Fresh off the back of ending their five-game winless run, Tranmere Rovers welcome Harrogate Town to Prenton Park in round 37 of the League Two on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Sulphurites will be seeking to snap their four-game winless streak and complete a league double over the hosts after picking up a 2-1 win back in December's reverse fixture.

Tranmere Rovers finally gave their fans something to cheer about as they secured a 3-2 home victory over a resilient Mansfield Town side in a five-goal thriller last Friday.

After Peter Clarke and Matthew Longstaff scored for either side to end the first half level, substitute Elliott Nevitt put on a clinic as he scored either side of Oliver Hawkins's equaliser, including a last-gasp 95th-minute winner to hand the hosts all three points.

Prior to that, the Super White Army were on a run of five consecutive games without a win, managing just one draw and losing five while conceding 10 goals and scoring five in that time.

With 59 points from 36 games, Micky Mellon's men are currently fourth in the League Two standings, but could leapfrog Newport County and Northampton Town and rise to second place with all three points on Tuesday.

Tranmere Rovers will feel confident of coming away with the desired results as they head into the game as the division's most superior side on home turf this season, picking up 40 points from 18 home games so far.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Town continue to struggle for form in the League Two as they fell to a second consecutive defeat last time out when they lost 3-0 at Bristol Rovers.

In a one-sided affair at the Memorial Stadium, Aaron Collins and Newcastle United loanee Elliot Anderson put the hosts two goals up going into the break before Aaron Collins scored in the 55th-minute to cap off a sensational team performance.

Harrogate Town have now failed to win any of their most recent four outings, picking up two points from 12 available in that time, while managing just one win in their last eight games.

This poor run of results has seen Simon Weaver's men drop out of the top half of the league standings as they currently occupy 14th place, joint on 43 points with Walsall and Bradford City after 35 games.

Team News

Nevitt ended his nine-game goal drought when he came off the bench to score twice against Mansfield Town last time out and the 25-year-old could be rewarded with a place in the XI on Tuesday.

The duo of Kieron Morris and Liverpool loanee Paul Glatzel are major doubts for Tranmere Rovers after both being hooked off the pitch through injuries versus the Stags on Friday.

They are joined on the club's injury table by 33-year-old midfielder Jay Spearing, who has been sidelined since picking up an injury in January's game against Stevenage.

Harrogate Town, on the other hand, will take to the pitch without the services of Simon Power after the 23-year-old midfielder picked up an injury in the game against Hartlepool United two weeks ago.

Eighteen-year-old forward Brahima Diarra came off injured just 23 minutes into the game against Bristol Rovers, meaning we could see Alexander Pattison return to the XI for his 29th start of the season.

However, they will be boosted by veteran defender Rory McArdle, who made his return from an injury lay-off in the aforementioned game after missing eight consecutive games through injury.

Tranmere Rovers possible starting lineup:
Murphy; Dacres-Cogley, Davies, Clarke, MacDonald; Hawks, Warrington, O'Connor, McPake; Nevitt; Hemmings

Harrogate Town possible starting lineup:
Oxley; Burrell, McArdle, Sheron; Fallowfield, Falkingham, Thomson, Diamond; Pattison, Beck, Armstrong

We say: Tranmere Rovers 2-1 Harrogate Town

After a drop-off in form, Tranmere Rovers picked up a much-needed victory against Mansfield Town last time out and will head into Tuesday's game in renewed confidence. Next up is an inconsistent Harrogate Town side who have managed just three wins since last November. With that said, we are backing Tranmere Rovers to build on their win over the Stags and come away with all three points.
