Preview: South Africa vs. Mozambique - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's International Friendlies clash between South Africa and Mozambique, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

All eyes will be on the Mbombela Stadium on Thursday evening when South Africa entertain the challenge of Mozambique in an international friendly.

The hosts will be looking to record a third consecutive victory, wile the away side set out to preserve a four-match unbeaten streak heading into the clash.

Match preview

South Africa edged past Botswana courtesy of a 1-0 victory when the teams went head-to-head at the First National Bank Stadium on September 27.

Hugo Broos's men took the lead seven minutes shy of half time through Teboho Mokoena, and that was enough to come out on top from a hard-fought contest.

The Bafana Bafana have now won back-to-back games off the back of consecutive defeats in their African Nations Championship qualifying tie against Angola.

Lying in store next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit with just one victory in the last five meetings between the teams since 2012.

However, that win did come in the most recent encounter back in July, as Thursday's hosts were defeated on penalties in the quarter-finals of the COSAFA Cup.

Mozambique booked their place at next year's CHAN tournament on away goals courtesy of a 1-1 aggregate score against Malawi over two legs.

Chiquinho Conde's men played out a 1-1 draw away from home on August 27 before completing the job with a goalless stalemate on September 4 in their last outing.

Consequently, Os Mambas have now failed to taste defeat since losing their COSAFA Cup third-place clash against Senegal via a penalty shootout back in July.

Having record three clean sheets in their last four matches, Thursday's visitors will be aiming to put on another solid defensive display en route to a positive result.

Team News

Mozambique's David Matola recently picked up an injury in training, and the defender has now been replaced by Agero Jonasse in Chiquinho Conde's plans.

Lau King and Macaime recently teamed up with the rest of their international colleagues, and both are in contention to start on Thursday.

As confirmed by Hugo Broos, the trio of Lyle Foster, Thibang Phete and Mihlali Mayambela are all ruled out for this one through late injuries.

Despite an underwhelming start to the season for TS Galaxy, Bathusi Aubaas has been handed a late call-up to replace the aforementioned Foster.

South Africa possible starting lineup:
Williams; Mobbie, Modiba, Sibisi, Maela; Mokoena, Maart, Le Roux; Mayo, Mmodi, Hlongwane

Mozambique possible starting lineup:
Siluane; Mutambe, Jonasse, Macandza, Muze; Momade, Divrassone, Shaquille; Alexandre, King, Ribeiro

SM words green background

We say: South Africa 2-0 Mozambique

South Africa have dominated this fixture to a large degree and will be seeking to exact revenge for an agonising loss in the most recent edition. We fancy the home side to cruise to a routine victory come the sound of the full-time whistle.
