Sheffield United complete the signing of former Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick on a one-year deal, with the option of an extension.

Sheffield United have completed the signing of free agent David McGoldrick on a one-year deal.

McGoldrick has been on trial with the Blades this summer and started their last two pre-season friendlies against Bradford City and Mansfield Town.

The 30-year-old was released by Ipswich Town at the end of last season but has now put pen to paper on an initial one-year contract at Bramall Lane, with the option to extend that by a further 12 months.

"I've continually said that we only want to bring in players who strengthen us and David ticks that box. He's a great link player, has a wealth of Championship experience and he may be coming into the best years of his career," manager Chris Wilder told the club's official website.

"David wanted to return north and this was too good an opportunity to turn down. His attitude and ability, not only in the matches he has played, but also on the training ground, is without question. I've spoken to a number of respected people about David and they cannot speak highly enough of him."

McGoldrick becomes Sheffield United's third signing of the summer, following on from the arrivals of Dean Henderson and John Egan.
