SM Football Shorts: La Liga preview as 2019-20 season resumes

Sports Mole Editor Barney Corkhill and Football Editor Matt Law discuss what is sure to be a feast of football as La Liga returns after a three-month hiatus.

The 2019-20 La Liga season resumes on Thursday after a break of more than three months caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

It will return in style too, with a derby clash between Sevilla and Real Betis the first match back and every club scheduled to be in action by the end of Sunday.

There will be 110 games in just 39 days as the Spanish top flight looks to sort out a number of unanswered questions at both ends of the table.

The title tussle remains very much up in the air with Barcelona and Real Madrid separated by just two points, which is the same gap that separates third from sixth in a fascinating battle for the top four.

At the bottom all three relegation places are up for grabs too, with La Liga stalwarts Espanyol currently propping up the table and six points from safety.

Hit play below to hear Sports Mole Editor Barney Corkhill and Football Editor Matt Law discuss what is sure to be a feast of football following an unplanned Spanish siesta.
