Portsmouth earn home win

Romain Padovani's first-half goal proves enough for Portsmouth to get the better of Dagenham & Redbridge in League Two.

Portsmouth have registered a narrow 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Dagenham & Redbridge at home in League Two.

The visitors made the brighter start of the two sides at Fratton Park as Zavon Hines saw his header saved on 10 minutes, but Pompey gradually began to gain control of proceedings.

Richie Barker's side broke the deadlock right on the stroke of half time when Romain Padovani headed home Ricky Holmes's corner from close range.

Chris Dickson squandered a good chance to equalise for Dagenham five minutes into the second half when he shot high from a good position inside the Portsmouth box, before Brian Saah tried his luck with a header but in vain.

Chances dried up thereafter as Portsmouth held on for all the three points.
