Gertjan Verbeek named Nuremberg boss

Nuremberg appoint experienced Dutch coach Gertjan Verbeek as their new coach on a deal that runs until 2015.

Nuremberg have confirmed Dutch coach Gertjan Verbeek as their manager on a deal that runs until 2015.

Verbeek has been appointed two weeks after Nuremberg decided to sack Michael Wiesinger, with the Dutchman taking up the post just a month after ending a three-year spell in charge of AZ Alkmaar.

The 51-year-old takes over a Nuremberg side without a win in nine Bundealiga matches this season, but he believes that a balanced squad can turn things round quickly.

He told reporters at a news conference this afternoon: "I've fallen in love with the club.

"It's got a rich tradition and has lots of young, talented players as well as more experienced ones. That appeals to me."

Verbeek's first game in charge of the Bundesliga strugglers comes on Friday night when they face a Stuttgart side six points better off in mid-table.
