Luciano Becchio linked with Middlesbrough loan

Middlesbrough want Luciano Becchio on a short-term deal when the loan window opens later today, according to a report.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray will reportedly renew his interest in Norwich City striker Luciano Becchio when the Football League loan window opens later today.

Becchio came close to joining Boro permanently before the transfer window slammed shut last Monday, with the Canaries fielding a £1.8m offer for the forward on deadline day.

That deal failed to go through but Mowbray is determined to sign a poacher in the final third and will launch a loan bid for the Argentine forward this week, according to The Mirror.

The 29-year-old joined Norwich from Leeds United in January but has failed to force his way into Chris Hughton's plans, making just eight appearances in the Premier League last season.

Norwich have strengthened significantly in attack during the summer, with Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel added to the list of strikers at Carrow Road.

The Canaries will reportedly listen to loan offers for Becchio, who is also believed to have attracted the interest of Championship sides Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading.
