Paul Scholes: 'Major surgery not needed at Manchester United'

Manchester United need improvements in three positions to become title challengers again, according to former midfielder Paul Scholes.

Paul Scholes has insisted that wholesale changes are not required to return Manchester United to the summit of English football.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the Red Devils have finished seventh, fourth and are on course to claim fourth position again this season.

There have been suggestions that a number of new players are needed for United to rediscover their glory days, but Scholes has claimed that only three additions are required.

"I don't think there's major surgery needed," the 41-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"I think we need a striker and a centre-half and maybe a little bit of creativity in midfield and if we can find that and maybe a different style of playing football, I think United fans will be happy."

Tomorrow, United travel to West Ham United, before their season concludes with a home game against Bournemouth on Sunday. If they win both matches, Louis van Gaal's men are guaranteed a top-four finish.
