Manchester City to fight Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund's Julian Weigl?

Manchester City will reportedly take on Barcelona for the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl next summer.

Manchester City are reportedly expected to take on Barcelona for the signature of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl next summer.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Bundesliga club from 1869 Munich in 2015, only returned to action in September after a four-month injury layoff with a fractured ankle.

According to Diario AS, Barcelona feel that Weigl could be an eventual replacement for Sergio Busquets, while Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen the defensive areas in City's midfield.

Weigl, who started 27 league games and nine in the Champions League last season, only signed a new contract until 2021 in December last year.

The midfielder has made four appearances so far in the current campaign, scoring one goal.
