Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano confirms that the club have rejected 'many loan offers' for Julian Alvarez, but claims that Barcelona are not interested in the forward.

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has confirmed that the club have rejected "many offers" to let Julian Alvarez leave on loan, but claims that Barcelona are not one of the teams to have registered their interest.

The Premier League champions completed the signing of the 22-year-old from River Plate in January for around £14.2m plus add-ons, with the forward returning to his native Argentina on loan.

Alvarez, who has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, was initially set to stay with River Plate until December 31, but he will now join up with City's first-team squad for pre-season this summer.

City chief Soriano has since confirmed that the club have turned down a number of offers from clubs seeking to take Alvarez on loan as the Argentina international is set to been apart of Pep Guardiola's plans in 2022-23.

"We have had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez – but he is not going to leave", Soriano told The Sun. "He will do pre-season with us and I think he will stay."

Soriano has also confirmed that Catalan giants Barcelona were not one of the clubs to have lodged a loan offer, adding: "Barcelona? No, Barcelona were not among those who were interested."

Alvarez, who recorded 24 goals and 15 assists in 46 appearances for River Plate across all competitions in 2021, is not the only attacker joining City this summer as a deal has also been agreed for Erling Braut Haaland to move to the Etihad.
