Preview: Hibernian vs. Dundee - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Hibernian and Dundee, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After losing a crucial game at the weekend to fellow relegation fighting Ross County, Dundee will be keen to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they travel to Hibernian.

The Hibees also failed to pick up three points on Saturday and they will be hoping to put that past them in order to start building momentum to the upcoming Scottish League Cup final next Sunday.

Hibernian's poor run of form continued at the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by St Mirren meaning they have now only won once in their past 10 SPL games.

Josh Campbell had given his managerless team the lead, putting some positivity to the fans following the recent sacking of Jack Ross but they were not able to hold on.

Joe Shaughnessy scored in the 87th minute to stop any hopes of the Hibees getting three points and that confirmed they would be staying in the bottom half of the table.

Hibernian are only four points away from Aberdeen, who sit in sixth, meaning a few consecutive results would allow them to start placing some pressure on those above.

Plus, with the Scottish League Cup final taking place next Sunday, there is no doubt a desire to gain some momentum and much-needed confidence before they face Celtic.

Dundee were also unable to win in their last outing which was a true six-pointer against fellow strugglers Ross County, who sit just one place below them in the table.

The Dark Blues are just two points ahead of the Staggies now, with that being the only thing keeping them out of the relegation zone, which is why their last match was so important.

James McPake will have been left frustrated from that match as his team did take the lead twice through Luke McCowan but an own goal from Danny Mullen brought Ross County level before they were able to win the match later on.

Despite the defeat, the Dark Blues have been in strong form overall, winning three of their previous six fixtures and a victory at the weekend could see them climb up to eighth depending on other results.

The two teams drew last time they met with Paul McGowan scoring in the 83rd minute to help Dundee earn a 2-2 draw, but both sides will be aiming to go one better this time.

Team News

Paul Hanlon and Paul McGinn will still be unavailable due to their suspensions, but that is a situation the Hibees dealt with in their most recent outing.

Hibernian were also missing Jake Doyle-Hayes as he dealt with a knock recently and that took him out of the team, as he is likely to be missing again at the weekend.

Dundee are also without several players due to lengthy problems with Shaun Byrne and Lee Ashcroft being out of action due to knee issues.

On top of that Cillian Sheridan will not be available with his Achilles tendon rupture keeping him on the shelf, but McCowan shall be aiming to keep his form going from the weekend.

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Macey; Cadden, Porteous, McGregor, Stevenson; Newell, Gogic; Murphy, Campbell, Boyle; Nisbet

Dundee possible starting lineup:
Legzdins; Kerr, Fontaine, Sweeney, Marshall; McMullan, Adam, Anderson, McCowan, McGowan; Mullen

We say: Hibernian 1-2 Dundee

Both teams are in a desperate need for points at the moment for different reasons, but that could lead to a closely-contested fixture between them.

Dundee have been in stronger form as of late, despite how the two teams are positioned within the league, which could lead to them taking the three points.
