Marco Russ secured a 1-1 draw for Eintracht Frankfurt with a late equaliser against Augsburg at the Comerzbank Arena.

Augsburg were on top for much of the early stages, but chances were few and far between until the visitors broke the deadlock midway through the first half.

Halil Altintop was the creator with a clever through-ball to Francisco Caiuby, whose emphatic finish from just inside the box found the top corner to give Lukas Hradecky no chance.

Frankfurt looked certain to pull level before the break when Russ connected with a powerful volley, but Marwin Hitz reacted impressively to tip the ball past the post.

Long spells of pressure from Frankfurt prevented Augsburg from committing men forward on a regular basis, and the hosts threatened again when Haris Seferovic dragged a shot wide early in the second half.

Ausburg twice came close to doubling their lead when Alexander Esswein fired over the bar from the edge of the box, before Hradecky kept out Tobias Werner's close-range effort to stop Markus Weinzierl's side from pulling clear.

A poor piece of marking gifted Frankfurt the chance to secure a point and it was Russ who capitalised to fire home in the 86th minute after Gian-Luca Waldschmidt won back possession on the wing.
