Chelsea reportedly include a lucrative bonus in the contract of Frank Lampard which will be triggered if the club qualify for the Champions League once again.

Chelsea have reportedly included a bonus Champions League clause in the contract for prospective new manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard has been given permission to speak to his former club about succeeding Maurizio Sarri in the dugout and was absent from Derby County's pre-season training on Monday to undergo further talks.

Derby chairman Mel Morris has admitted that it is "only a matter of time" before a deal is completed, with Lampard expected to put pen to paper on a three-year contract worth £4m before the end of this week.

Chelsea's record goalscorer could earn extra money on top of that base salary of £4m, though, with a number of incentives thrown into the bargain - including a bonus of almost £1m if the Blues once again seal Champions League qualification.

However, Lampard must contend with a transfer ban and the loss of star man Eden Hazard if he is to achieve that feat in what will be just his second year as a manager.

The 41-year-old, who scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea, took Derby to the Championship playoff final during his maiden campaign in the dugout last term.
