Cardiff City's Peter Whittingham: "We've not been good enough"

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham acknowledges that his side were not good enough to avoid the drop from the Premier League this season.

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham has admitted that his side have not been good enough this season following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Bluebirds' drop to the Championship was confirmed as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United and Sunderland beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Whittingham told Wales Online: "We are devastated, but to be honest it was not just about the Newcastle game. We've not been good enough in most of the games this season.

"We all knew what the Premier League was about. We'd watched it on TV and we knew how hard it is. Everyone knows now how tough it is.

"It shows very quickly if you are just not good enough. We've probably not had the bits of luck you need at times too."

Cardiff end their Premier League campaign at home against Chelsea on Sunday.
