Albert Rusnak came close for the hosts in the opening stages, but after cutting inside, he saw his strike deflect wide of the post.

Birmingham took the lead on 15 minutes when Lee Novak met a cross from Paul Caddis and flicked the ball past the keeper.

Rusnak came close to adding a second soon after, but saw his strike cleared off the line by Ashley Williams.

Birmingham continued to create chances, with Chris Burke and Reece Brown firing their respective efforts wide.

Jordi Amat should have brought Swansea level before the break, but put the ball over from close range after connecting with Chico Flores's pass.

In the 67th minute the visitors equalised, when Wilfried Bony hammered Roland Lamah's cross past the keeper.

Two minutes later, Swansea took the lead when Bony latched onto Leon Britton's past and chipped into the net.

The home side pushed for a late goal, but could not find the net, as Swansea booked their place in the fifth round.
