Tim Sherwood urges Aston Villa to ignore FA Cup

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood tells his charges to forget about their upcoming FA Cup final with Arsenal and focus on staying in the Premier League.

Tim Sherwood has told his Aston Villa team to forget about their FA Cup final next month and focus on winning their Premier League relegation battle.

The Villans, who sit six points clear of danger, edged out Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley on Sunday to book a date with Arsenal in the showpiece on May 30.

Sherwood's side humbled Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in their last league outing, and the 46-year-old hopes that those wins provide springboards to safety.

"We have got a lot of hard work to do in the Premier League. We realise that," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"But the confidence is there after wins over Tottenham and Liverpool. We have the momentum. We have to bounce into our remaining games now.

"If we can get that done, we will return for the FA Cup final very, very happy."

Villa travel to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
