Liverpool 'drop interest in Monaco star Thomas Lemar'

Arsenal are out in front to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco as Liverpool have pulled out of the running to sign the French attacker, according to a report.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly ended his pursuit of Thomas Lemar after being asked to spend over £90m for the Monaco attacker.

Lemar is a rumoured long-term target for both the Reds and Premier League rivals Arsenal, who were prepared to hand over the same amount during the summer window.

Arsenal were forced to admit defeat in their attempt to lure the France international to North London, though, as he was unwilling to spend a season playing Europa League football.

Klopp's side have since emerged as the frontrunners to take Lemar, but The Times claims that they will now look elsewhere for a Philippe Coutinho replacement due to his hefty price tag, which Monaco are unwilling to budge on.

The report suggests that Liverpool are instead prepared to spend up to £60m on the 22-year-old, seeing other options - namely Borussia Dortmund ace Christian Pulisic - as better value for money.
