Ian Wright describes Arsenal's reported decision to let Olivier Giroud leave the Emirates Stadium as "lose a tenner, find a fiver".

Ian Wright has criticised Arsenal's purported decision to let Olivier Giroud leave the club.

The French forward is believed to be on the verge of a move to Chelsea as Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reportedly edges closer to a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

The Blues, who are thought to be letting Michy Batshuayi join Dortmund as part of the exchange, have been linked with a number of forwards over the past month to provide cover for Alvaro Morata.

Arsenal legend Wright is, however, bemused at the thought of letting Giroud go, deeming the decision a case of one step forward and two steps back for the Gunners.

"Why would they sell him? It doesn't make sense," Wright told BBC Sport. "It really would be like lose a tenner, find a fiver.

"So we've got Lacazette and fingers crossed Aubameyang and no big guy on the bench.

"You are talking about bringing on Danny Welbeck, or if Lacazette's not playing then him. We haven't got that guy that's proven off the bench to come on and score goals."

Giroud has made 25 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring seven goals.
