Preview: Aberdeen vs. Livingston - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Aberdeen and Livingston, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aberdeen and Livingston get the chance to catch up again at Pittodrie in the Scottish Premiership after their goalless draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena at the weekend.

That was the Dons' second successive 0-0 draw so manager Derek McInnes will be pleased to have secured some reinforcements for his forward line in the run-up to this game.

Aberdeen travelled to West Lothian on Saturday and made the long trip home with a point after drawing 0-0 with David Martindale's in-form Livi side.

McInnes took the positives from the game, hailing the fact that it was the Dons' third consecutive clean sheet.

He was frustrated, though, with his team's inability to convert the goalscoring chances that they created, and bemoaned the lack of a proper number nine to lead his forward line.

He may have remedied that problem with the signing on loan of Fraser Hornby from French side Stade de Reims for the rest of the season.

The Dons remain third in the Scottish Premiership table, five points behind second-placed Celtic but only a point ahead of Hibernian.

Livingston have now gone 13 games in all competitions without defeat since Martindale took over as manager in November.

The League Cup finalists have climbed to fifth place in the league ladder, and the gap between them and fourth-placed Hibs has shrunk to seven points.

The Lions have now not beaten Aberdeen in 14 games in all competitions, however, a run that stretches back 17 years.

Martindale's side have kept clean sheets in four of their last five games in all competitions so are clearly a resilient side that are very hard to beat.

Team News

Aberdeen's Sam Cosgrove pictured in April 2019© Reuters

Sam Cosgrove was left out of the Aberdeen squad at the weekend as he looks set to join English outfit Birmingham City this week.

Scott Wright, set to join Rangers at the end of the season, was also left out of the starting lineup and may not return to it as he could yet join the Gers before the January transfer window shuts.

Curtis Main is sidelined with a knee injury, so Aberdeen will be hoping that the Fraser Hornby deal can be concluded before Tuesday's game so that the Scotland Under-21 striker can play.

Dylan McGeouch returned to the squad at the weekend after a long absence with injury.

Keaghan Jacobs and Alan Lithgow are absent for Livi, but otherwise Martindale has a full squad to pick from.

He made four changes for the game against the Dons at the weekend, bringing in Efe Ambrose, Julien Serrano, Scott Robinson and Craig Sibbald for Josh Mullin, Alan Forrest and Gavin Reilly - who all dropped to the bench - and Jack Fitzwater, who missed out entirely.

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Hoban, Taylor, Considine; Hedges, Ferguson, Kennedy, Leigh; McCrorie, Hornby, Hayes

Livingston possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Ambrose, Guthrie, Brown; Devlin, Bartley, Holt, Serrano; Pittman, Sibbald; Robinson

SM words green background

We say: Aberdeen 0-0 Livingston

Our prediction for this game is that these two teams will battle out another goalless draw, a result that will probably suit Livi more than the Dons.

Neither side concedes a lot of goals but Aberdeen's recent bluntness in attack will cancel out their home advantage.
