British number one Emma Raducanu is forced to withdraw from the Transylvanian Open in Romania due to a wrist injury.

Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the upcoming Transylvanian Open in Romania due to a wrist injury.

The 19-year-old has endured an injury-hit first full year on the WTA tour, having been thrust into the spotlight when she won the US Open as a qualifier in 2021.

Raducanu was forced to retire injured from her Korea Open semi-final against Latvian Jelena Ostapenko recently, but did compete Ostrava Open earlier this week, being knocked out by world number 11 Daria Kasatkina in the first round.

However, the Transylvanian Open organisers have now confirmed that the British number one, whose father is from Romania, will not compete in this year's event.

"Unfortunately, Emma will not be with us at this edition of the Transylvania Open, due to an injury," read a statement.

"We know that many fans wanted to see the player with Romanian origins on the court, and we would have liked to offer them this experience.

"However, tennis is unpredictable, and in such situations the only solution is recovery. We wish Emma the best of health."

Raducanu, now ranked 67th in the world following the loss of her US Open ranking points, is still hoping to play in the Billie Jean King Cup, which begins in Glasgow on November 8.

Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong will announce her lineup for that event on Monday, with Raducanu expected to be included.
