Andy Murray advances in Monte Carlo

Andy Murray overcomes Pierre-Hugues Herbert in three sets to progress through to the third round at the Monte Carlo Masters.

World number two Andy Murray has reached the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters thanks to a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert this afternoon.

The Scot claimed the opening set in routine fashion, but then a string of unforced errors handed the second set to his French opponent.

However, Murray regained his composure early on in the decider with a break of the Herbert serve, before going on to wrap up his victory in just over two hours.

Murray, 28, will now take on either Benoit Paire or Portugal's Joao Sousa for a place in round four.
