Wigan Warriors' Bevan French has been named the 2023 Super League Man of Steel.

The 27-year-old has been playing in a new stand-off role this season and has been instrumental in helping his side into Saturday's Grand Final against Catalans Dragons at Old Trafford.

French beat St Helens full-back Jack Welsby and Catalans winger Tom Johnstone to the award, which is given to the player of the season in the Super League.

The Australian becomes the first Wigan player to scoop the honour in 11 years since Sam Tomkins won it in 2012.

Incidentally, Tomkins beat French to the award when he was previously nominated in 2021, and will play the last match of his glittering career in the Grand Final this weekend.

Josh Thewlis of Warrington Wolves was named the Super League Young Player of the Year, while Adrian Lam won the Super League Coach of the Year having steered Leigh Leopards to Challenge Cup glory as well as earning a place in the playoffs in their first season after winning promotion.

Sinead Peach of York Valkyrie was named the Woman of Steel, while Lewis King earned the honour of winning the inaugural Wheels of Steel award for best player in the wheelchair league.
