James Roby open to NRL offers

St Helens hooker James Roby refuses to rule out a future move to the NRL, despite rejecting an offer from the Parramatta Eels last month.

Long-serving St Helens hooker James Roby has refused to rule out a future move to Australia.

The 27-year-old, who made his Saints debut in 2004, says that he is very happy at Langtree Park, but admits that the huge wages on offer in the NRL make a switch Down Under hard to dismiss.

"I'd like to see myself staying at Saints, but the way the salary cap is in Australia now I have to consider family reasons too," Roby told the St Helens Star.

"Also I am getting on a bit in rugby terms now and am towards the back end of my career."

Roby was offered a 2015 transfer to the Parramatta Eels last month, but he rejected the proposal because the New South Wales club set a strict deadline for his decision.

"Parramatta approached me, but I could not commit to the deadline because it would have meant not listening to any other offers," Roby added.

"I don't know what I am going to do with my next contract, but I enjoy myself at Saints. It is my dream job really."

Roby is currently recovering from an ankle injury.
