AFC Telford United name former Wolves coach Rob Edwards as new manager

National League North side AFC Telford United announce that they have appointed former Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Rob Edwards as their new manager.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers coach Rob Edwards has been appointed as the new manager of AFC Telford United.

At the end of May, Wolves confirmed that Edwards had left Molineux along with Paul Lambert after the club opted to name Nuno Espirito Santo as their new boss.

However, it has taken less than a month for the 34-year-old to land his first permanent role as manager after being brought in by the National League North side, who play at the sixth tier of English football.

Edwards's only previous experience as a manager came earlier in the most recent Championship campaign when he was promoted to interim head coach soon after Walter Zenga was removed from his position.

During that period, he claimed a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn Rovers before witnessing Wolves suffer a 3-2 defeat at home to Derby County.

Before the announcement, the Shropshire outfit had revealed that they had parted company with Rob Smith, who has enjoyed two relatively successful periods in the dugout.
