Victor Wanyama's first goal for the club gave Southampton a 1-0 victory away at Swansea City this afternoon.

Swansea had dominated the first half until Wilfried Bony's red card in the 40th minute, which totally changed the game.

Southampton had all of the ball in the second half and Wanyama's goal gave them the winner that all their pressure suggested they would get.

SWANSEA CITY

Goal

Lukasz Fabianski: The goalkeeper did very little wrong and commanded his area very well all afternoon. There was nothing he could have done about Victor Wanyama's winner. (7/10)

Defence

Angel Rangel: Much of Southampton's threat in the latter stages came down their left flank as they bombarded Swansea. Rangel offered little going forward, but was solid defensively. (6/10)

Federico Fernandez: A good showing by the centre-back on his full Premier League debut. He was under severe pressure for the entire second half, but hardly put a foot wrong. (7/10)

Ashley Williams: A captain's performance. He needed to be strong and lead his team through the second half after Wilfried Bony's red card and he did just that. He was dominant in the air and one or two lapses aside, was very commanding. (8/10)

Neil Taylor: Struggled at times with his final ball in the first half, but always showed for the ball and was willing to overlap. Made two crucial interceptions in the first period. (7/10)

Midfield

Nathan Dyer: After a scintillating start to the season, today was a slightly more subdued showing by the winger, but he did threaten in patches against his former club. (7/10)

Jonjo Shelvey: A quiet afternoon for the central midfielder. He saw a lot of the ball in the first half without really providing any chances. His set-piece delivery was poor throughout though. (6/10)

Ki Sung-yueng: A mixed afternoon for Ki. Looked like a top-class central midfielder at times when he ran with the ball, but struggled to stop Southampton after the break. (7/10)

Wayne Routledge: Swansea's brightest attacking player of the afternoon. He was always willing to run at the Southampton defence and almost teed up Dyer for the opener in the first half. (7/10)

Gylfi Sigurdsson: Much like Dyer, a quiet afternoon for the Icelandic international who has started the season incredibly well. Should have done more with a first-half shot from 20 yards. Struggled in the second period. (6/10)

Attack

Wilfried Bony: Let his team down massively. Two idiotic challenges earned him an early bath after just 40 minutes. It could have been so different had his goalbound header not been cleared off the line a few moments before he was shown a justified red card. (4/10)

Substitutes

Jefferson Montero: Very lively in the closing stages and looked like Swansea's biggest threat after going a goal down. (7/10)

Marvin Emnes: Featured for less than 10 minutes and had no time to make an impact. (6/10)

SOUTHAMPTON

Goal

Fraser Forster: Only had one save to make all afternoon, which was routine from Sigurdsson's weak effort. (7/10)

Defence

Nathaniel Clyne: Another really strong performance by the right-back. Roy Hodgson was in attendance today, and he surely must be thinking of including the youngster in his next squad. (8/10)

Jose Fonte: Perhaps a little lucky to not be sent off for an untidy challenge at the end of the first half when he was already on a booking. Struggled to cope with Bony in the first half. (5/10)

Maya Yoshida: A nightmare afternoon for the Japan international. Couldn't cope with Bony in the first half, earned a booking for waving an imaginary card in the referee's face and was withdrawn at half time. (4/10)

Ryan Bertrand: Enjoyed a really good battle with Dyer in the first half. Got forward lots in the second period, but his delivery was mixed. (7/10)

Midfield

James Ward-Prowse: His free kicks and corners are usually top notch, but not today. Left the field with a foot injury with 20 minutes left to play. (6/10)

Morgan Schneiderlin: He's made the headlines for his goalscoring prowess in recent weeks, but he couldn't stop Swansea's incisive passing in the first half. Offered little going forward. (6/10)

Jack Cork: The more advanced of the central midfield duo, but Cork couldn't quite get into the game and was replaced. (6/10)

Dusan Tadic: The winger's made a great start to his Southampton career and today was no exception. His delivery wasn't always spot on, but he was always looking to probe and find a clever pass. (7/10)

Attack

Shane Long Played in a slightly withdrawn role behind his strike partner, but he couldn't get into the game. (6/10)

Graziano Pelle: A strange afternoon for the striker. He had so many chances in the second half and his movement was fantastic, but his finishing wasn't up to scratch. (7/10)

Substitutes

Florin Gardos: Replaced Yoshida at the break and had very little defending to do. Reasonably comfortable in possession. (6/10)

Steven Davis: Kept the ball moving and had plenty of touches on the ball, but did very little with it. (6/10)

Victor Wanyama: Came off the bench to score his first goal for the club with 10 minutes remaining. What more can you ask for? (8/10)
