Sheffield Wednesday pile misery on Nottingham Forest

Goals from Kieran Lee and Chris Maguire fire Sheffield Wednesday to a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in their Championship clash at the City Ground.

Sheffield Wednesday piled more misery on Nottingham Forest this afternoon as they recorded a 2-0 win over Stuart Pearce's men at the City Ground thanks to strikes from Kieran Lee and Chris Maguire.

The visitors came close to taking the lead in the seventh minute when Jacques Maghoma raided forward unchallenged and tried to curl a 20-yard strike at goal which went just wide of the post.

Minutes later, Maghoma broke through on goal and appeared to have a clear passage to be one-on-one with Dorus de Vries, but Jamaal Lascelles tracked back to make an crucial tackle and prevent the shot.

Forest hit back with a good chance as Ben Osborn lifted a corner into the box which was flicked into the path of Robert Tesche, but the midfielder failed to hit the target with his strike from close range.

However, Tesche did force Keiren Westwood into the action as the Republic of Ireland stopper made a smart reaction save from close range to deny the midfielder from firing the home side ahead.

Wednesday took the lead right before half time when a header from Atdhe Nuhiu was blocked on the line by Tesche, with Lee reacting to the ball first and managing to bundle it home.

In the second half, the visitors doubled their lead when Forest failed to clear their lines from a cross into the box, and Maguire won the ball and placed it beyond the reach of De Vries.

Forest almost got back into the game when former Wednesday winger Michail Antonio powered a header towards the top corner, but Westwood was on hand to tip the ball over the bar.

Wednesday nearly wrapped the game up as Nuhiu displayed his skill by controlling the ball and then unleashing an effort on the half-volley, although his strike missed the target by inches.

Forest had one late chance to get back into the game, but Lars Veldwijk was unable to turn a cross from Osborn in at the back post, as his side slumped to their fourth defeat on the spin.
