Schalke 04 move past Werder Bremen

Schalke 04 score three times in the second period to beat Werder Bremen 3-0 in the Bundesliga.

Schalke 04 scored three second-half goals to move past Werder Bremen 3-0 in the Bundesliga this evening.

Zlatko Junuzovic saw a shot saved on 25 minutes for Werder, after good work from Franco Di Santo in the build-up to the chance.

Di Santo went close himself shortly after the half-hour mark, but the former Chelsea striker put his left-footed shot wide of the post.

The home side had the better of the exchanges in the opening period and Assani Lukimya headed over the bar late on.

Despite their first-half dominance, the home side found themselves two goals down with six minutes of the restart.

Max Meyer netted just two minutes into the second period when he converted with a left-footed finish after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar had laid on the assist.

The visitors doubled their lead three minutes later when Roman Neustadter headed home Christian Fuchs's cross.

Tranquillo Barnetta then put the gloss on the result late when he made it 3-0 with five minutes remaining.
