Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga is a doubt for next Monday's clash with Burnley after leaving the Sweden squad early with a minor injury.

Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga has left the Sweden camp prematurely after picking up a minor injury.

Elanga was an unused substitute in Sweden's 5-0 thrashing of Estonia in Tallinn on Saturday, with Dejan Kulusevski and Emil Forsberg preferred.

However, he has now been sent home from the squad early, meaning that he will miss Sweden's Euro 2024 qualifier with Austria on Tuesday, instead, returning back to England to be assessed further.

The Swedish FA released a statement saying: "Anthony Elanga has left the men's national team squad due to a minor injury. He was therefore not present at Sunday's training."

Elanga would have hoped to be rewarded with his first league start by Steve Cooper against Burnley next week after his heroics shortly before the international break.

The winger scored the only goal as Forest recorded a famous 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Elanga has shown plenty of promising glimpses in his four cameo appearances off the bench so far this season.

On debut, the Swede provided the assist for Taiwo Awoniyi's goal at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal, but Forest still fell to a narrow defeat.

The roles were reversed in West London, as it was Awoniyi who set up Elanga to score, but this time, Forest would go on to claim all three points.

A first-half hamstring injury suffered by Danilo saw Elanga thrust into the action at Chelsea.

With both players now doubtful though, another of Forest's new signings may have to come in to play behind Awoniyi.

However, Callum Hudson-Odoi's fitness is still under question with his lack of game time, and the same can be said of Divock Origi, who also has not featured in any capacity since May.

The sale of Brennan Johnson could see Ryan Yates used in a more advanced role from the start again, like he did in the first half before Danilo's injury.

Forest host Burnley at the City Ground on Monday night in their first match after the international break.
