"Unhappy" Manchester United midfielder to leave this summer?

Manchester United are willing to let unsettled midfielder Christian Eriksen leave the club this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to let Christian Eriksen leave the club this summer.

The Denmark international made the move to Old Trafford on a free transfer in July 2022 after impressing for Brentford in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

Eriksen was a vital player for the Red Devils last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions, but he has been restricted to just 21 outings during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 32-year-old has only played 37 minutes of Premier League football since the middle of January, and he admitted earlier this month that he was "unhappy" with his current situation.

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand has also admitted that he is concerned by the midfielder's lack of action at club level ahead of this summer's European Championship.

Eriksen will be a vital player for his country at Euro 2024 but could find regular action hard to secure in the build-up to the tournament in Germany.

The midfielder did feature for 40 minutes against Liverpool in the FA Cup before the international break, but he is set to be back on the bench against Brentford in the league on Saturday night.

According to Football Insider, Man United are prepared to let Eriksen leave this summer despite the fact that he will have another 12 months left to run on his contract.

The report claims that clubs from the Saudi Pro League are keeping a close eye on his situation, while there has also previously been suggestions of interest from Turkey.

Eriksen is down the pecking order in the Man United midfield

Kobbie Mainoo's emergence has harmed Eriksen's action in recent months, with the 18-year-old now regarded as a key player for Man United.

Bruno Fernandes is the captain and a certain starter, meaning that there is only potentially one more midfield spot available, and Casemiro is first choice in the holding midfield role.

Scott McTominay is also ahead of Eriksen in the pecking order, while Mason Mount is back from a long-term injury, which will make it even tougher for Eriksen to secure regular action.

The Dane was a regular in the early months of the campaign, but it has been a struggle for him to earn minutes since picking up a knee injury which sidelined him between the end of November and end of December.

Eriksen has been a strong performer for Man United, scoring three goals and registering 12 assists in 65 appearances since his arrival, but it does appear that his time at the club is coming to an end.
