Cristiano Ronaldo's request to sign a central striker was reportedly rejected by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

Cristiano Ronaldo's request to sign a new forward was reportedly rejected by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

The 37-year-old has previously expressed a desire to leave this summer due to United's failure to clinch a top-four spot last season.

However, according to The Mirror, Ronaldo indicated in March that he was happy to see out the remainder of his two-year contract, but he also told the club that they should sign a striker.

The Portugal international was reportedly keen for United to sign a player who could join him in the forward line.

However, Ronaldo's request would mean that the Red Devils would utilise a front two, something Ten Hag is not in favour of, with the United boss preferring one central striker and wide forwards operating on the flanks.

Ten Hag wanted to sign Antony from his former club, but Ajax were not prepared to sell the winger, while PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is another target for the Premier League club.

Despite disagreeing with Ronaldo on the type of forward that United need to sign, Ten Hag is still keen to strengthen in the final third before the transfer window closes.
