Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood wants to join Getafe on a permanent basis next summer, according to a report.

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is reportedly keen to join Getafe on a permanent basis during next summer's transfer window.

The 22-year-old made the move to Getafe on loan last month after it was revealed that he would not be continuing his career at Old Trafford.

Greenwood has made five La Liga appearances this season, scoring once and providing one assist, with his goal coming against Celta Vigo last time out.

As it stands, the Englishman will return to Man United next summer, as he still has another two years left to run on his contract with the 20-time English champions.

Journalist Jamie Jackson recently claimed that there could potentially be a route back into the first-team picture at Man United at the end of the campaign.

However, according to The Sun, Greenwood is preparing to depart the Red Devils on a permanent basis next summer, and he is keen on a long-term move to Getafe.

The report claims that the forward has been delighted with the support that he has received from his teammates and the club's fans during his short time in the Spanish capital.

Greenwood took to Instagram last week to comment on his first goal for Getafe, who currently sit 11th in the La Liga table with 10 points from their first nine matches.

"Happy to score my first goal for Getafe. Amazing team spirit to come away with a point," he posted on his official account.

The forward will now be bidding to be involved in his loan club's next match against Real Betis, which comes next weekend.

At the start of last year, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the CPS said that all charges had been dropped earlier this year.

Man United had reportedly been planning to bring Greenwood back into the team this summer before changing their minds due to the public backlash.

The forward was linked with a number of clubs when it became clear that he would be leaving Old Trafford, with Lazio making an attempt to sign him before Getafe secured a deal.
