Manchester United release a statement in response to Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Manchester United have released a statement in response to Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive interview with Piers Morgan, with details of the exchange made public on Sunday night.

During the interview, the 37-year-old claimed that he feels "betrayed" by the club and also said that he did not "have respect" for Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo was not involved in Man United's two games ahead of the break for the 2022 World Cup, missing out against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup and Fulham in the Premier League due to illness.

The forward is now preparing to represent Portugal at the 2022 World Cup, and he still has a contract at Old Trafford until the end of the campaign.

However, there have been suggestions that he will be on the move in January, and the forward has now seemingly played his last game for the club after launching an attack on his current side.

Man United released a statement on Monday afternoon, which said that the club are working to establish "the full facts" before launching an official response.

The 20-time English champions also reiterated the importance of keeping the "togetherness" that has been built at Old Trafford this season under their new head coach.

"Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established," said the statement.

"Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans."

Ronaldo also criticised former Man United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick, and the club's all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney, during his interview with Morgan.

Ex-Man United forward Teddy Sheringham has said that there will be no way back for the Portuguese at Old Trafford following the explosive discussion on TalkTV.

"He's using words like 'disrespected' and him disrespecting the manager. When you come out with these things, there are going to be a lot of unhappy Man United supporters this morning reading all this," Sheringham told the Daily Mail.

"It's definitely, definitely, time for him to go now. There's no turning back. He should have gone at the start of the season, he didn't, they tried to work with it. Obviously his body language hasn't been great - I think he needs to go now."

Ronaldo has found it difficult to make his mark for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign, only scoring three times in 16 appearances in all competitions, with just one of those goals coming in the Premier League.

The forward is expected to be in Portugal's starting side for their World Cup opener against Ghana on November 24.
