How Liverpool could line up against Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Wednesday night's Premier League showdown with fellow high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur.

The champions face the leaders of the Premier League on Wednesday night when Liverpool welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield.

The Reds go into the match sitting second in the table, only behind their visitors on goal difference after both sides were held to 1-1 draws at the weekend.

Liverpool boast a formidable home record in recent years, though, and know that victory would leave them out on their own at the top of the table once again.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could set his side up for the contest.

Possible LIV XI vs. TOT

Out: Diogo Jota (knee), Thiago Alcantara (knee), Virgil van Dijk (knee), Joe Gomez (knee), James Milner (hamstring), Kostas Tsimikas (knee), Xherdan Shaqiri (muscle)
Doubtful: Joel Matip (back), Naby Keita (muscle)

Liverpool's injury problems continue to mount, with Joel Matip the latest doubt to emerge after being forced off at half time of Sunday's draw with Fulham due to back spasms.

Klopp has played down the severity of the problem and remains hopeful that his only remaining senior centre-back will recover in time, having deployed Jordan Henderson and Fabinho as his two central defenders in the second half at Craven Cottage.

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips do provide other options if Matip does fall short, and would likely be Klopp's preferred choice from the start ahead of using Henderson in such an unfamiliar position again.

Naby Keita has also rejoined the injury list after missing the weekend game with a muscle injury, although his latest absence could be a short one and he will be assessed ahead of kickoff on Wednesday.

Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas are expected to miss the next two months after sustaining knee problems in last week's Champions League dead-rubber, joining the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri on a devastating injury list.

Jota's absence means that Klopp is again likely to field the famed front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did make the bench against Fulham and could be involved again here, although that is unlikely to come from the start as Klopp looks to ease him back in.
