The visitors started the game brightly and could have taken the lead in the fourth minute if not for a good save from Paddy Kenny, who turned Andrea Orlandi's 25-yard effort past the post.

Brighton continued to dominate and went ahead in the 12th minute when Andrew Crofts raided down the right and fired a cross to the near post, where Leonardo Ulloa turned the ball into the net.

However, Leeds were level within minutes as Michael Tonge's cross was headed into the path of Ross McCormack, who slotted the ball home.

After the break, Brighton went close through Crofts as he rose highest in the area to meet David's corner, but he could only head over the bar.

Leeds were grateful to Kenny for keeping them level in the 65th minute when he made a great double save, first to deny Crofts and then kept out the rebound from Inigo Calderon.

Substitute Dominic Poleon came close to winning the game for his side in the 90th minute but Tomas Kuszcak made a great save to keep his curling effort out, while on the rebound Paul Green blazed his shot over the bar.

At the other end Kenny produced similar heroics to keep Will Buckley's headed effort from crossing the line with a one-handed save.

That proved to be crucial as Leeds won the game with the last kick. Murphy raided into the penalty area and slided the ball past Kuszcak to secure the three points for Brian McDermott's side.
