Barcelona have confirmed that Gerard Pique will miss Sunday's La Liga clash with Levante.

The 35-year-old had to be replaced in the first half of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final first leg with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany after suffering a groin problem.

Pique underwent tests on Friday to determine the extent of the issue, and Barcelona have revealed that the Spaniard will be missing against Levante this weekend.

"Tests carried out on Friday have confirmed that the first-team player Gerard Pique has a tendinopathy of the adductor longus muscle in his left thigh. The groin injury means the player is out and his recovery will dictate his return," read a statement from Barcelona's official website.

The Catalan club have not put a timeframe on the defender's absence, but he is unlikely to recover for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final with Frankfurt next week.

Pique has again been a vital player for his La Liga outfit during the 2021-22 campaign, making 38 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals in the process.
