Mesut Ozil shows his support towards Arsenal and their fans in an interview following his retirement from football.

Mesut Ozil has reaffirmed his support for Arsenal and their supporters following his retirement from football this week.

The German World Cup winner spent over seven years at the club, winning the FA Cup on four occasions, but fell out with current boss Mikel Arteta, leading to his departure from the club in 2021.

Persistent injury problems saw Ozil call it a day on his professional career aged 34, following brief stints at Fenerbahce and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Speaking to Marca, Ozil was asked to sum up his time in North London, and was largely positive when looking back.

Ozil said: "The first years were very good. We played in the Champions League, we had a great team with great players and an incredible coach like Arsene Wenger. After he left the club, many things changed for me. But I have no interest in adding fuel to the fire again.

"Now I am relaxed and I wish the best to the Arsenal fans, who have always been very supportive of me. I would be happy for them if they could celebrate the Premier League title. They deserve it!"

Arsenal are currently eight points clear at the top of Premier League, but closest challengers Manchester City still have a game in hand on the Gunners.
