Kevin Anderson reaches round three of the Italian Open after Philipp Kohlschreiber is forced to retire during their second-round encounter.

Kevin Anderson has advanced at the Italian Open after Philipp Kohlschreiber was forced to retire during their second-round clash.

World number 16 Anderson won the opening three games of the contest before an arm injury put an end to Kohlschreiber's participation.

The South African will now take on either second seed Roger Federer or Pablo Cuevas for a place in the quarter-finals.

Anderson, who is seeded 15th, suffered a first-round defeat to Simone Bolelli at last week's Madrid Open.
