Dickson Etuhu blasts ref over penalty appeal

Dickson Etuhu blasts referee Peter Walton over a denied penalty appeal during Tottenham's 3-1 victory over Fulham.

Dickson Etuhu has blasted referee Peter Walton over a denied penalty appeal during Tottenham's 3-1 victory over Fulham yesterday.

Spurs right-back Kyle Walker appeared to handle the ball in his own area during a scramble near the goal, but Walton denied Fulham a penalty.

"It was handball. I was right there and he handled it," Etuhu said after the game.

"The ref knows. I had a word with him and he said 'Listen, I didn't see it and if it was a handball then I'm sorry'.

"And I said to him 'Sorry isn't good enough'. It was the defining moment. If we had got a penalty, we'd probably have got the goal and it would have been tight at the end.

"We deserved to win the game the way we played. We were the better team. We did the right things and we are heading in the right direction. I'm sure we'll start moving up the table soon."

Tottenham's assistant manager Joe Jordan, standing in for Harry Redknapp, denied that there should have been a penalty, while Fulham boss Martin Jol said: "We felt hard done by with the penalty situation."

The loss means Fulham drop to 16th in the Premier League, while Spurs remain at fifth with a game in hand.
