Preview: Sevilla vs. Getafe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Sevilla and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sevilla will be bidding to win in La Liga for the first time since the middle of October when they welcome Getafe to Estadio Ramon on Sunday evening.

Jorge Sampaoli's side are currently 18th in the table, boasting just 12 points from their opening 15 matches of the season, while Getafe are 14th on 17 points from 15 games.

Sevilla have finished fourth in each of their last three La Liga seasons, while they have been present in Spain's top flight since 2001, but a poor start to this campaign has left them in the relegation zone.

Sampaoli's side have only picked up 12 points from their 15 league matches this season courtesy of a record of two wins, six draws and seven defeats, which has left them in 18th position in the table.

Sevilla are winless in their last six league games, with their last success coming away to Mallorca in the middle of October; since then, the team have drawn three and lost three in Spain's top flight.

Los Nervionenses played out a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo in La Liga last weekend, but they will enter this match off the back of a morale-boosting victory in the Copa del Rey, beating Linares Deportivo 5-0 to progress to the last-16 stage of the competition.

Sevilla have actually won each of their last six league matches against Getafe, including a 1-0 victory in the corresponding match during the 2021-22 campaign.

Getafe, meanwhile, were also in Copa del Rey action earlier this week, being eliminated in the last-32 stage of the competition courtesy of a 3-2 loss to Levante.

Quique Sanchez Flores's side were 2-0 winners over Mallorca in the league last weekend, though, with the result leaving them in 14th position in the table on 17 points.

Getafe are currently five points clear of 18th-placed Sevilla, boasting a record of four wins, five draws and six defeats from their 15 La Liga matches during the 2022-23 campaign.

The Deep Blue Ones have only played outside of Spain's top flight for one season since 2004, so it would be a surprise if they were relegated this season.

As mentioned, their recent record against Sevilla is poor, last triumphing against Sunday's opponents in La Liga in April 2019, losing each of the last six league games between the two sides.

Team News

Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri celebrates scoring their first goal with Joan Jordan on October 25, 2022© Reuters

Sevilla will be missing Jose Angel Carmona through suspension due to his red card against Celta last time out, but the team will be boosted by the returns of Ivan Rakitic, Gonzalo Montiel and Tanguy Nianzou, who were all banned for the team's last league fixture.

Alex Telles, Thomas Delaney, Marcao, Papu Gomez and Jesus Manuel Corona are all expected to again miss out through injury, while Karim Rekik remains a doubt.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored three times in the team's Copa del Rey win over Linares Deportivo, and he will again lead the line in this match, while Erik Lamela could have played his way into the XI with his performance in the cup fixture last time out.

Getafe, meanwhile, are again expected to be without the services of Mauro Arambarri, but the team did not pick up any fresh problems in the Copa del Rey clash with Levante.

Sanchez Flores will have been pleased with the team's performance against Mallorca in the league last time out, so it would not be a surprise to see the same XI take to the field here.

Munir El Haddadi has put himself in contention to start with his double in the clash with Levante, but Borja Mayoral scored twice against Mallorca in the league last weekend, so he should retain his spot.

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Bounou; Montiel, Nianzou, Gudelj, Acuna; Jordan, Fernando, Rakitic; Mir, En-Nesyri, Lamela

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Suarez, Dakonam, Duarte, Alderete, Portu; Alena, Algobia, Milla; Unal, Mayoral

We say: Sevilla 1-0 Getafe

Sevilla are difficult to back at the moment, but a home victory is coming for Sampaoli's side, and we are predicting it to happen this weekend. Getafe have lost just three of their seven away league fixtures this term, but we have a feeling that Sevilla will shade this contest.
