Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Sergio Ramos announces that he will leave the Ligue 1 champions when his contract expires this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos has announced that he will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has spent the past two seasons at the Parc des Princes since departing Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2021, ending a glittering 16-year stint in the Spanish capital.

Ramos's first campaign with PSG was blighted by injuries, but he nevertheless ended the 2021-22 season with a Ligue 1 title to his name under Mauricio Pochettino.

Since consigning his fitness woes to the past, the former Spain international has been an integral member of Christophe Galtier's backline, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 44 games this season.

Ramos started 30 top-flight matches for PSG en route to the club's 11th Ligue 1 title, while he also played every minute of their run to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The centre-back's future has been shrouded in uncertainty throughout the season, though, as he is only under contract with the French champions until the end of June.

PSG were initially thought to be willing to offer Ramos a one-year extension, but the club have now confirmed that the Spaniard will bid his farewells after two years at the club.

"Wearing the Red and Blue shirt for the last two years has been a wonderful experience. I've had an unforgettable adventure in Paris and I'd like to thank you all for your support and love. Allez Paris!" Ramos told the official PSG website.

President Nasser Al-Khelaifi also paid tribute to the veteran defender, adding: "We would like to express our immense gratitude to Sergio Ramos for the two years he has spent with us.

"Sergio's leadership, team spirit and professionalism, combined with his experience at the highest level, make him a true football legend, and it was an honour to have him in Paris. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best."

Ramos exits PSG having contributed five goals and one assist from 57 games for the French champions in all competitions, winning one Trophee des Champions crown as well as a pair of Ligue 1 titles.

PSG will welcome Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar to the club on a free transfer this summer to replace Ramos, who is thought to be of interest to several clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Following a long-standing rivalry with Lionel Messi during their time in La Liga, Ramos and the attacker have forged a jovial relationship at PSG, but the latter is also confirmed to be leaving when his deal expires this summer.

Galtier confirmed earlier this week that Saturday's Ligue 1 clash with Clermont would be Messi's last in a PSG shirt, and the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is being tipped to join Ramos and Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League, but Barcelona are not giving up hope of a summer reunion.
