Southampton 'make enquiry for Manchester United's Brandon Williams'

Southampton approach Manchester United to discuss a loan deal for Brandon Williams, according to a report.

Southampton have reportedly approached Manchester United to discuss a possible loan deal for Brandon Williams before the end of this summer's transfer window.

Williams is currently Luke Shaw's understudy when it comes to the left-back spot at Old Trafford, but the expected arrival of Alex Telles from Porto is likely to push the 20-year-old down the pecking order.

The defender only signed a new long-term contract with United in August, having made 36 appearances in all competitions for the first team during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Southampton, who have won their last two Premier League games, want to sign the youngster on loan.

The report claims that Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is determined to boost his defensive options before the deadline, but United are likely to insist that Williams receives regular matches as part of the arrangement.

The full-back has made two EFL Cup appearances this season but has not been in the squad for any of United's three Premier League games against Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.
