The former Roma player will add width to the Reds' attack, providing support for Roberto Firmino in an advanced forward position.

Youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given the nod at right-back, while Alberto Moreno gets a rare start on the left side of defence.

Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum have been deployed in the middle of the park.

Philippe Coutinho, who recently handed in a transfer request amid interest from Barcelona, is out injured.

Hosts Watford have handed a debut to Nathaniel Chalobah, a summer arrival from Chelsea, starting him at the heart of a 4-3-3 formation.

Fellow summer recruits Andre Gray, Richarlison and Kiko Femenia start the match on the bench.
