Dermot Gallagher: 'Ban for Mohamed Salah would be astonishing'

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that he would be "astonished" if Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah received retrospective action from the FA.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has said that he would be "astonished" if the Football Association took retrospective action against Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah.

During Saturday's Premier League fixture at Anfield, Salah flicked out an arm in relation to a challenge from Stoke City defender Bruno Martins Indi, but no action was taken by the referee.

A report has claimed that the Egyptian international could face a three-match ban, but Gallagher has played down the chances of the top-flight's top goalscorer being sidelined by the FA.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I would be astonished if that got processed for two reasons: A, he has flicked out, I will admit that, but B, if you look at it again, the referee (Andre Marriner) is looking directly at it and he could not be better placed, it is uninterrupted."

The fixture on Merseyside ended in a goalless draw.
