Allan Johnston to leave Kilmarnock in summer

Kilmarnock boss Allan Johnston announces that he will step down from his role at the club at the end of the season.

Allan Johnston has announced that he intends to step down from his role as Kilmarnock manager at the end of the season.

The 41-year-old, who has been in charge at Rugby Park since 2013, has revealed that the sale of Robbie Muirhead to Dundee United had proven key in his decision, which he said was made moments before attending his weekly press conference.

The Scot told reporters: "There are a number of things but that certainly doesn't make your job any easier. I never found out Robbie was away until 12.05am after deadline day. Stuff like that, it is not the way things are done.

"There is a new chairman coming in and I think it is important that there is a freshness about the club and it is time to move on anyway."

Johnston has won 20 of his 66 matches in charge of the club.
